Trenchless technology is at last taking off in Turkey, given the recent success of the No Dig Turkey summit held in Istanbul between 18-19 November. The event – supported by the International Society for Trenchless Technology (ISTT) – was attended by a host of local and international participants.
No Dig Turkey included a day of training on horizontal directional drilling (HDD) which took place on the second day. Sam Ariaratnam, chairman of ISTT, gave the training programme, together with Turkish Society for Infrastructure and Trenchless Technology (TSITT) officials Onur Kaya (HDD working group leader) and Orkun Cevizci (HDD working group consultant). Participants on the training course each received a book published by TSITT entitled ‘Driller’s Handbook and Daily Log.’
Trenchless activity in Turkey has been bolstered by TSITT. The society has pointed out that No Dig Turkey events will take place each year in Istanbul, culminating in the No Dig International summit to be held in the Turkish capital in 2015.
